Computational Literary Studies (CLS) as a subfield of the Digital Humanities is very rich in tradition, but at the same time, in the last 5–10 years, it has opened up numerous new fields of activity, also beyond “Stylometric Authorship Attribution”, as well as new informatic and/or statistical methods. The aim of the European joint project CLS INFRA is to support the development of this innovative field of work, especially in its European, multilingual dimension.

The growing CLS community has specific needs in terms of a suitable research infrastructure for closely linked text corpora, metadata, and analysis tools. Considering this, the project promotes the consolidation, integration and further development of national, regional and institutional efforts to provide a common and sustainable access to high-quality data, tools and knowledge in the field of Literary Studies and Computational Literary Studies.

Within the collaborative project, the TCDH is the leader of Work Package 3 on "Methodological Considerations of CLS". The goal of this work package is to foster the development of the Computational Literary Studies community towards a common, open, and durable infrastructure that is guided by the concrete needs of the community and that promotes and disseminates innovative research. Thus, the tasks in this area are both to document and disseminate current methods and experiences of literary scholars working digitally and to test innovative methods at the periphery of current practices.
