More than 100 people attended the event at the Museum Ladin, which consists of the museums “Ladin Ciastel de Tor” and “Ladin Ursus ladinicus”. The MusLa provides an opportunity to experience the Ladin culture, art, history, and nature in the Dolomites.
The focal point of the event was the presentation of the user-friendly digital adaptation of the two-volume Ladin-German/German-Ladin Dictionary by Giovanni Mischí, which was published in 2021.
Dr. Thomas Burch and Dr. Claudia Bamberg guided participants through the new online dictionary, which is integrated into the Dictionary Network, and explained its technical concept and diverse applications.
By making the dictionary freely accessible, a significant contribution is being made to the expansion, dissemination, and preservation of the Ladin language. At the same time, it promotes intercultural communication between the Ladin and German-speaking communities. The online dictionary is a practical tool for language learners, researchers, and the general public.
The event was also covered by local television: RAI3 Ladin reported on the event and highlighted the importance of the online dictionary: RAI3 report.
The new online dictionary is aimed at those who work professionally with the Ladin language, including teachers, students, translators, and journalists, as well as researchers and technical experts. The dictionary is intended to facilitate and promote the production and translation of official texts and texts of particular public relevance, for example in the areas of education, culture, municipal administration, or media.
However, the dictionary is not only meant for users in the Gadertal valley, but for all Ladin speakers: upon closer inspection, they will find that the shared elements and connections between the different idioms are more prominent than what may seem to separate them at first glance.
The TCDH is delighted with the successful online premiere and proud to include the Ladin-German/German-Ladin dictionary in the Dictionary Network, thus contributing to the promotion and preservation of Ladin language and culture.
