Personal Data and Authority Data: Enrichment with Wikibase

This Bring-Your-Own-Data Lab focuses on personal data and how it can be enriched with authority files and controlled vocabularies. Enrichment allows your data to connect with other systems, makes data mapping easier, and increases the discoverability of your data. By marking up your data with controlled vocabularies, you can carry out further analyses that are comparable and reproducible.

After a keynote by Ruth Bruchertseifer (University of Trier), who will share insights from her research on personal data in the project "Ashkenaz in New Environments", it's your turn!

Experts Dr. Katrin Moeller (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Co-Applicant of NFDI4Memory Task Area Data Connectivity) and Dr. Olaf Simons (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, staff member of the NFDI4Memory Task Area Data Connectivity) will then assist you in enriching your own personal dataset with controlled vocabularies and authority files. The experts will explain how to select appropriate vocabularies and how to implement enrichment, and will demonstrate why a manual approach may be superior to an AI-based one for this task. You will learn how to reuse existing vocabularies and adapt them to your own purposes.

Using the Wikibase FactGrid, you can link your dataset to authority files — with direct support from the experts throughout.

Prerequisites

This BYODL is aimed at researchers from the humanities and cultural studies, as well as the GLAM sector, who have datasets containing personal data.

To allow the experts to prepare optimally for your data, we ask that you include a brief description of your data when registering.
