Working Meeting on Macrogenesis

Arthur Schnitzler digital

On May 19, the team of the digital Arthur Schnitzler Edition met at the TCDH in Trier. Over coffee, fruit, and snacks, the planned macrogenesis of the Schnitzler Edition was discussed.
Arbeitstreffen zur Makrogenese

In the future, the macrogenesis of the works is to be developed for the digital Schnitzler-Edition. This will enable a cross-document alignment of corresponding units at the level of the entire surviving genetic material per work. In this way, the macrogenesis will complement the mikrogenesis already developed for Fräulein Else, which traces the changes made by the author at the textual level during the process of composition. Going forward, it will be possible to show how the internal structure of a work changed over the course of its creation, for example, when a play initially conceived as a one-act piece grew into a three-act work during the drafting process, or when chapters were added, moved, removed, or scenes were merged together. Technically, this will be implemented using the collation tool Comparo, developed at the TCDH and already in use, which allows the textual content sequences to be compared, managed, and related to one another. The web presentation is intended to closely follow the already existing microgenesis view.

The team will of course keep you updated on further developments.
