Dr Julianne Nyhan, employee at the Trier Competence Center for Electronic Indexing and Publication Processes in the Humanities, was elected to the TEI Council, the management body of the Text Encoding Initiative, a globally networked community that collectively sets generally applicable standards for digital text data structuring and editing . -annotation developed. The TEI orients itself towards the needs of its members, the majority of whom come from the humanities, social sciences and linguistics. The TEI Council, which includes Nyhan scientists from universities in Michigan, Oxford and London, is responsible for the technical development of the TEI-DTD, one of the most important handouts of the TEI. The Document Type Definition is a set of flexible rules with which texts can be digitally recorded, annotated, edited, further processed and prepared in such a way that they can still be read by humans and machines after decades. In addition to the technical development of the DTD, Nyhan will propose, develop and evaluate new functions as part of the management committee and monitor the development of new versions of the TEI guidelines.

After Nyhan wrote her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis in Ireland on 'The Application of XML to the Historical Lexicography of Old, Middle and Early Modern Irish: a lexicon-based analysis', she was coordinator of the European Reference Index for the Humanities at in 2008 the European Science Foundation in Strasbourg.

Nyhan has been working as a research assistant for the Trier Competence Center since January 2009. Her special research focus is on the scientific edition of historical dictionaries and sources using the latest computer technology - especially with regard to the compression of the data material and the possibilities of information retrieval. In addition to the above-mentioned activities, she has been Deputy Chairwoman of the TEI-Education SIG since January and promotes the spread of the TEI in training and teaching. For this very purpose, the digital publication of the 'TEI-Extramural Journal' (TEI-EJ) is to take place every six months from the summer of 2010. Stephanie A. Schiltz from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will open up new ways of exchanging information. In addition to her commitment to the TEI, she is responsible for the reviews section within the journal 'Interdisciplinary Science Reviews'.

Until December 2011, Julianne Nyhan and eleven other members will drive the technical development of the TEI DTD, which is indispensable for the labeling of digital texts.
