Lecture by Prof. Christof Schöch: “Linked Open Literary History / L’histoire littéraire ouverte en réseau”.

In this lecture, it will be shown why the mere digital availability of texts is not sufficient and why it requires modeling in a form that corresponds to the epistemological approaches of the humanities. To this end, Prof. Schöch will present the project "Mining and Modeling Text", which is building a knowledge graph for literary history, fed by various sources such as literary texts, literary history or bibliographic resources. It will outline how these sources are analyzed, how the extracted information is formally modeled, and how the result is made available as Linked Open Data and linked to other Semantic Web resources to open new avenues for the field of literary history.

Abstract:
La numérisation des textes est fondamentale pour les humanités numériques, mais elle n'est pas suffisante. Au-delà de la simple disponibilité numérique, la modélisation sous une forme qui corresponde aux modes de la connaissance dans les sciences humaines est essentielle. Dans ce contexte, l'objectif du projet "Mining and Modeling Text" est d'établir un réseau d'informations pour l'histoire littéraire qui soit alimenté par des sources diverses telles que les textes littéraires, les histoires littéraires ou les ressources bibliographiques. L'intervention montrera comment ces sources sont analysées, comment les informations obtenues sont modélisées formellement et comment le resultat est rendu disponible sous forme de Linked Open Data et relié à d'autres ressources du Web sémantique afin d'ouvrir de nouvelles pistes pour le domaine de l'histoire littéraire.
