The Trier Center for Digital Humanities (TCDH) at Trier University invites applications for the following position, to be filled at the earliest possible date:

Research Associate (m/f/x) (E 13 TV-L, 100%, permanent position)

 

Since its establishment in 1998, the Trier Center for Digital Humanities (TCDH) has developed into a nationally and internationally recognized center for Digital Humanities. Its aim is to address research questions in the humanities and cultural studies through the development, further development, and application of innovative computational methods and approaches, to develop new research approaches in these disciplines, and at the same time to contribute to the emergence of new fields of research and methodologies in disciplines closely related to computer science. The TCDH is organized into several research areas: Digital Editing and Lexicography, Software Systems and Research Infrastructure, and Digital Literary and Cultural Studies.

Your responsibilities

  • Head the “Digital Literary and Cultural Studies” research area, including the acquisition of new research projects, coordination of ongoing research projects, reporting, staff recruitment, and staff development within the research area. 
  • Teach courses in the degree programs of Faculty II, “Language, Literature and Media Studies,” particularly in Computational Linguistics and Digital Humanities, currently amounting to 8 weekly contact hours per semester (SWS), and contribute to examination-related duties in the subject area. 
  • Organize and conduct workshops and other events at the Trier Center for Digital Humanities

Your qualifications

  • A completed academic university degree (Master’s degree, Diplom, or equivalent qualification) in a humanities discipline or in computer science is required. 
  • A doctoral degree in a humanities discipline or in computer science is also required, as well as at least two years and six months of full-time professional experience following successful completion of the university degree. 
  • Demonstrable experience and/or expertise in research and teaching in the Digital Humanities is expected, preferably at the intersection of literary or cultural studies and computer science. 
  • A very good command of academic German and English is also required. 
  • Experience in acquiring external research funding and in carrying out or managing externally funded projects is expected.
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team, together with corresponding communication skills, is desirable. 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of data curation/data processing, programming and/or statistics, as well as experience with LLMs and Linked Open Data methods, would be advantageous. Alternatively, applicants should demonstrate a clear willingness to acquire these skills.
