Digital Humanities course

The first students at the University of Trier are expected to be able to start a master’s degree in Digital Humanities (M. Sc.) From the 2014/15 winter semester.

The newly established bilingual (German - English) course is part of Computational Linguistics and Digital Humanities and is offered in collaboration with the Trier Center for Digital Humanities. At the interface between computer science and humanities, the course teaches Bachelor graduates from both disciplines the core competencies of an up-and-coming branch of science.

In a standard study period of four semesters, students first acquire the basics from the fields of computer science or humanities that complement their personal focus. In the further course, skills of representation, digital processing as well as the visualization and analysis of humanities and cultural studies data, both textual and multimedia, are taught.

Trier not only offers an ideal starting point for innovative research in the humanities due to its cultural heritage and its long tradition of research in the digital humanities and computational linguistics, the networking with the university in the Greater Region with Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Germany also promotes intercultural diversity. Through the connection with linguistic and literary studies as well as art history seminars, students receive a broad humanities orientation. In addition, the close connection to the Trier Center for Digital Humanities and the cooperation with various cultural-historical institutes in the region enable project-related practice for prospective scientists.

Subject to the outstanding accreditation, the course will be offered from the winter semester 2014/15. The application period for students ends on September 3rd, 2014, for foreign students on July 15th, 2014.
