An excellent ambience for research, teaching, studying and living: This is what the young Campus II on the Petrisberg (former French hospital) offers after years of renovation as part of the conversion after the departure of the French. This second location of the University of Trier will be presented to the public for the first time on June 16, 2007 from 11 am onwards with an “Open House”. The University of Trier cordially invites the population from the city and region to this first "Open House" on Campus II.

"The only high-rise building on the Petrisberg that can be seen from afar has become an attractive second location for the University of Trier", comments University President Prof. Dr. Peter Schwenkmezger is pleased that the University of Trier has expanded from Tarforster Höhe to Petrisberg and the neighboring Science Park (WIP). Because the biogeography and ecotoxicology subjects in building 024 of the WIP will also open their doors on June 16 and provide an insight into their research spectrum. The development company Petrisberg (EGP) will also be there, presenting successful companies from the neighboring science park.

To the presentations

The "Open Day" offers visitors an insight into the life of the university: The subjects, laboratories, research institutes and facilities located on Campus II as well as subjects and research projects from Campus I that are also exhibiting on Campus II are presented.

The focus of the exhibitions is the Department VI Geography / Geosciences with subjects such as soil science, remote sensing, geobotany, cartography, spatial development and regional planning, physical geography, geology, hydrology. Projects from the Olewiger Bach over the accessible geological map of Rhineland-Palatinate to plants as bioindicators for bad air in the context of Europe-wide investigations are conveyed. The biogeographers and ecotoxicologists will be there, and they will offer insights into laboratories and environmental specimen bank in the Science Park (building 024). There you can see tarantulas and snakes up close.

IAAEG and IT

The IAAEG, the Institute for Labor Law and Industrial Relations in the European Community, as well as the subject of computer science, both located on Campus II, present their areas of work. The IAAEG provides information on current research and presents its library.

"Logic and computer science" or the question "What does Scottland Yard have to do with Constantine and computer science?" are topics with which the computer scientists at the University of Trier arouse curiosity.

Psychology and sociology

The subject of psychology will be represented with topics that are being researched and discussed today in a broad social context: "Stress research", "Gifted research" and "Behavioral problems, spelling weaknesses - performance and suitability", "Human eating behavior" or "Change blindness" in the context of attention research belong to the presentations.

“Experience religion - explore religion” - under this topic the sociologists present a project with posters, lecture and film that they carried out last year for World Youth Day and the Pope's visit to Germany.

Humanities contributions and a literary quartet

The humanities - mainly located on Campus I - are represented with a few exemplary contributions at the “Open House”. Papyrus and antique writing implements, Latin in today's Trier or foreign words derived from Latin and Greek, are contributions from the ZAT, the Center for Classical Studies. “Knowledge and culture - cultures of knowledge” is the name of the interactive presentation by the competence center for electronic cataloging and publication processes in the humanities. The highlight is a literary quartet with literary scholars from English, German and Italian studies.

Advice: Studying in Trier

One of the main focuses of the "Open Day" is advice on all aspects of studying in Trier, including the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geography as well as the bio and geoscientific subjects that start in the winter semester. The Central Student Advisory Service offers a study information exchange for all study programs at the university. The International Office provides information about the possibilities of studying abroad for Trier students as well as about study opportunities for foreigners at the University of Trier. Information on senior studies and advice from students for students by the AStA complete the offer.

Children's university and childcare - dining in the cafeteria and ox on a spit

A special program awaits the youngest visitors: small children from one to three years of age are looked after by the association Perspektive e.V. For older children, there are “researcher games” and events as part of the children's university.
The student union of the University of Trier takes care of the physical well-being with a canteen menu and a salad buffet. The highlight of the culinary offerings is a grilled ox on a spit.

There are no parking spaces on Campus II. There is a bus every half an hour from the main train station to and from Campus II. There is sufficient parking space on Campus I, Tarforster Höhe. From there there is a bus to Campus II every half hour.

The University of Trier is pleased to present its Campus II - this attractive location of the University of Trier - to the people in the city and region. Anyone who would like to get to know Campus II is very welcome. The presentations end at 6:00 p.m. The day ends with music and a cozy get-together until around 8 p.m.
