Conference, WorkshopThe Competence Center for Electronic Cataloguing and Publishing in the Humanities at the University of Trier is celebrating its tenth anniversary! To mark this occasion, the seventh international <philtag> workshop "Communicating eHumanities: Archives, Textcentres, Portals" will take place in Trier on October 13-14, 2008. Experts from Germany and abroad will meet to exchange views on current developments and research in the field of EDP philology.
The public keynote lecture on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Competence Center on the topic "The digital evolution of culture or the modest contribution of the humanities to the virtualization of the world" will be given by Prof. Dr. Fotis Jannidis (TU Darmstadt) on Monday, October 13 at 6 p.m. (Lecture Hall 1). Fotis Jannidis is not only one of the pioneers of the use of EDP in German literary studies, but also and above all the pioneer for the acceptance of TEI in Germany.
The opening lecture of the conference will be given by Dr. Michael Sperberg-McQueen of the World Wide Web Consortium on October 13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. (Room B12). He is one of the key developers of the markup language XML and the document format TEI - both standards are accepted and in use worldwide; his topic "What is schema mapping, and why should portals care?"
