6. Working meeting of German language academy dictionaries

An event of the Language Center of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences with the projects “German Dictionary”, “Goethe Dictionary” and “Digital Dictionary of the German Language”.

As anyone who practices lexicography is aware, the subject is currently in a state of upheaval. Older companies that have shaped professional practice are nearing completion, new ones have to position themselves and are faced with both scientific and scientific policy challenges. The current situation is characterized by the use of computer-aided processes, the technical aspects of which were the focus of the last conference. It is essential now to reflect on the genuine lexicographical perspectives and to formulate the topic more comprehensively. A fundamental reflection should take place from a broader perspective, because the problems are similar for lexicography outside the German-speaking area. For this reason, it appears promising to include representatives of large European dictionaries in the exchange of experience. The expansion to a European framework takes into account the fact that lexicography often crosses national language borders anyway.
