Presentation by Cora Rok, Keli Du, Iuliia Dudar, Christof Schöch at the Romanistentag in Augsburg “Europe between Regionalism and Globalization” (October 4-7, 2021), section “Digital, Global, Transdisciplinary: Impulses for a Transdisciplinary Digital Romance Studies”.

The presentation will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of a computer-based comparison of groups of texts in which differences manifest themselves at the lexical level, as well as the usefulness of this method for literary studies with regard to questions of genre theory. The focus is on the distinctiveness measure "Zeta," which is used to examine a corpus of 160 novels in French (1980-89) from the genres of crime, sentimental, science fiction, and high literature.
