Research for practice in "Economy - Culture - Environment - Society" under this range of topics, the Forum Hochschule Wirtschaft and the University of Trier are jointly organizing a night of science at the University of Trier on Campus II (chapel, building K) on Wednesday 22 October 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. In lectures and an accompanying exhibition, the university conveys innovative, future-oriented research that should open up new perspectives for business and society.

What are the future rules of the market when penguins, lemmings and chameleons rule the economy? How can computer programs use experience for the fire brigade or in the kitchen? How do we steer our attention in the information and media society today? How do we manage all of the knowledge and dictionaries in the digital world? What findings does environmental toxicology bring to practice? - Questions that are intended to attract guests and interested parties from the city and region to the first Science Night at the University of Trier.

Research for practice in "Economy - Culture - Environment - Society" under this range of topics, the Forum Hochschule Wirtschaft and the University of Trier are jointly organizing a night of science at the University of Trier on Campus II (chapel, building K) on Wednesday, 22nd October 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. In lectures and an accompanying exhibition, the university conveys innovative, future-oriented research that is intended to open up new perspectives for business and society.

After a welcoming address by University President Prof. Dr. Peter Schwenkmezger, the chairman of the University Business Forum, Hans Rendenbach, and Josef Mentges, the head of the University and Science Department from the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Culture and Youth and Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, lectures will take place under the moderation of business editor Heribert Waschbüsch, Trierischer Volksfreund.

To the program

Prof Dr Ralph Bergmann and Dr Mirjam Minor from Business Informatics II (FB IV) will speak at 7:00 p.m. on the subject of "How computer programs use experience - applications in the chip industry, in the fire department and in the kitchen". It continues with the subject of media studies at 7:20 pm: Prof Dr Hans-Jürgen Bucher speaks on the topic “Everything is so beautifully colorful here - where should I look? On the Economy of Attention in the Media Society ”, (FB II).

During the break, visitors to the Science Night can exchange ideas over a snack in the foyer, talk to the speakers and find out more about projects at the University of Trier at the exhibition stands.

From 8:15 p.m. the lecture by Prof Dr Rolf Weiber, Professorship of Marketing, Innovation and E-Business (FB IV), on "The rules of the market of the future - when penguins, lemmings and chameleons rule the economy".

“From alant beer to cypress branch. Dictionaries and knowledge management in the digital world ", is the topic of the lecture at 8:35 pm by Dr Andrea Rapp and Dr Thomas Burch, Management Competence Center for Electronic Cataloging and Publication Processes in the Humanities (FB II). The last lecture comes from a forward-looking, relatively young direction at the University of Trier, the subject of Ecotoxicology / Toxicology (FB VI). The speaker is Prof Dr Brunhilde Blömeke. She is head of the Institute for Bio-Geo-Analytics, Environmental Samples and Biobanks (IBU) at the University of Trier and speaks on the subject of "Environmental toxicology - research for practice".

Wine industry, regional soils and wine tasting

The Science Night ends with a highlight. This is about the amalgamation of regional wine industry and internal university research: "The Terroir Moselle - vineyard soils and wines" is the title of the lecture by Prof. Dr. Sören Thiele-Bruhn from soil science (FB VI). He explains the vineyard soils and their effects on the wines and grape varieties growing on them. The Trier winemaker Peter Terges from the Peter Terges winery in Olewig offers a matching wine tasting for all guests of the Night of Science.

Science Night takes place on Campus II from 6:00 p.m. to around 11:00 p.m. in the chapel (building K). Participation is free.
