At this year’s City Campus, taking place on 26 September 2014, the Trier Center for Digital Humanities presents its work with not one but two creative and interesting contributions for all ages.

For the second time, the City Campus event transforms the Trier city centre into a landscape of knowledge. The Trier University and the University of Applied Sciences transfer science into the city and allow an insight and interactive participation within their manifold presentations. This year, the collaboration with the Illuminale will not only create a particularly impressive atmosphere, but also function as an outstanding connecting point for light and sciences.

With their presentation on “Goldfünkchen, Glühwürmchen, Leuchtärschchen – Auf sprachlicher Entdeckungsreise durch die Illuminale” (Firefly, Glowworm, Lightning Bug – A Linguistic Expedition throughout the Illuminale), the Trier Dictionary Network enables a voyage of discovery throughout the German language. How does one say ‘glowworm’ in the Palatinate? Which proverbs include ‘light’ and how did people use those in the Middle Ages? On the quest for solution to fill in a digital crossword puzzle one will come across foreign and forgotten expressions, valuable cultural possessions, and enlightening knowledge. Whoever conquers the quiz will be rewarded with badges and diy-buttons.

The eCodicology project will be giving an interesting insight into “Initiale trifft Illuminale” (Capital Letter meets Illuminale): not only will the project be presenting manuscripts of the Trier Aesop, a medieval fable collection, but also will there be given a workshop concerning everything to do with “book and paper”, building a bridge to the motto of this major event with their illuminated manuscripts. Entertaining our younger visitors, a ‘creative corner’ will be set up, inviting the children to take on the role of a medieval monk and creating their own skillfully decorative capital letters. The ‘bag of light to go’ completes the programme creatively with stamps of pre-manufactured capital letters or those self-designed.

Exhibition will be held at the Trier Priesterseminar, 1. OG Foyer, 26 September 2014, 4.00-0.00 pm.
