The workshop “Digital Humanities-Kompetenzzentren in Deutschland – Modelle, Erfahrungen und Perspektiven für Berlin” (Competence Centers for Digtal Humanities in Germany – Model Concepts, Experiences, and Perspectives for Berlin) will take place on 28th June 2013 at the Humboldt Graduate School in Berlin. Here, Prof Dr Claudine Moulin will introduce the Trier Center for Digital Humanities.
Based on the complex methodology of the development of digital corpora, their annotation, and their evaluation, in recent years the Digital Humanities have been expanding to become the transdisciplinary science dealing with digital methods in the humanities. In Berlin, this development is widely divided to various facilities such as universities, libraries, museums, and archives, as well as extramural research institutions; the research focuses particularly on the handling of objects and images.
The wide range of research activities calls for good organisation. Therefore, the topics of this workshop are questions concerning the role of competence centres for digital humanities:
In what way are the digital humanities to be located in the national and international scientific landscape?
How can the extension of the information structure be connected to the development of research questions in the humanities?
In discussions with experts of various established centres for digital humanities, the question will be addressed which strategic aims and duties a Berlin centre for digital humanities could have.
The workshop is the first in a newly established row of events that shall be continued regularly. The next workshop on “Objekt, Bild und Informationsschnittstellen” (Object, Image, and Information Interfaces) will take place in October 2013.
