On June 12th we invite little explorers to visit the medieval writing workshop. In the Middle Ages almost all books were written by hand by monks and decorated with colorful letters and pictures. Almost every monastery had its own writing workshop for this. We give an insight into what was written in these books and for whom the books were made and answer your questions. Then we slip into the role of a medieval monk and produce our own books.
The Children's University of Rhineland-Palatinate is part of the Child-friendly Rhineland-Palatinate action program of the Ministry of Education, Science, Further Education and Culture. This program bundles the activities of the universities of Mainz, Trier, Kaiserslautern and Koblenz-Landau as well as the universities of applied sciences in Bingen, Kaiserlautern, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Mainz, Trier and Worms. The campaign is intended to give children an early insight into the university landscape, to set new learning incentives and to get them excited about science. Every year around 1,200 children and young people from the greater Trier region, Saarland and Luxembourg come to take part in around 30 events at Trier University. The lectures, workshops and excursions at the Children's University are aimed at 8 to 12 year olds.
